To many Slovenians, the people of Ljubljana are known as “Žabarji” – frog people. The nickname was coined because the typical inhabitants of Ljubljana say ‘kva‘ instead of ‘kaj‘, which means ‘what‘. And a frog in Slovenian produces a sounds ‘kva’. But »Žabarji« comes also because of the abundance of frogs in the area – a bounty of amphibians that also gave rise to one of the most distinctive dishes of the Slovenian capital: frog legs!! Yet, other sources say that the interrogative ‘kva‘ comes directly from Napoleon times in Ljubljana, from the French word ‘quoi‘, which also means ‘what‘ and is pronounced quite the same.
We are putting KVA the upgraded meaning and it stands beside the mentioned meanings also for Culture (KV) and Art (A), which can be seen from design and promotion of local art.
